A new deal to build and maintain express trains in the North East will see up to 900 new jobs created.
Agility trains, a subsidiary of Hitachi, will build 596 rail carriages in the £4.1bn deal.
Over 700 jobs will be created in the factory in Durham and 200 staff will be recruited to construct the plant.
The plans are expected to finish by 2017.
